NSDAP Lantern.

Postby The Devils Bank » Tue Jan 08, 2019 5:09 pm

I've been after this for a while, it was residing in the States..

The person who had it didn't collect WW2 German stuff.

So, after a little chat and a little persuading? (££'s  )..

This lovely item is now mine, and residing in the UK. :ymapplause:

It folds into itself as shown and the Panels are made of a kind of plastic.

It had a lighted candle inside (?) and it's this, that has made the plastic panels crack and shrink.

The Panels.

Postby The Devils Bank » Tue Jan 08, 2019 5:10 pm

The panels are in poor condition and some need replacing.

As I've said, they are made of plastic and the purple ones all need replacing.

I'll have to measure them up and get some plastic cut to shape and see if I can find similar patterns to replace them with.

They simply fit inside the metal edges and are held in place via the inside wider edges.

Maybe a firm can be found who can replicate the pattern?

Candle?

Postby The Devils Bank » Tue Jan 08, 2019 5:16 pm

Was a lighted candle used inside?

The purple panels are distorted and have cracked, yet the Swastika panels are still solid and compact, although slightly warped. :-??

So, there is a attachment, inside the middle, to hold a candle (?) in place.

Can't think of ay thing else that would fit inside, although there aren't any smoke/heat marks to be seen.

I'm delighted to add this little "unknown" item to my collection, nobody seems to have any information on it.

As soon as I first saw it, I knew I had to have it \:D/

Never seen one before Pete certainly an unusual item for sure. Looks to have plenty of age to say it is a period piece. Regards Mark

it was just cheap and affordable party supporter/patriotic items. it was officially banned as NAZI KITSCH (TAT) in 1933 for cheapening the party symbols, period proof to show this out there as well if I remember correctly.

no doubt it made the party alot of tax money this ''KITSCH'' stuff.

you got everything from earrings and pendants to lanterns, cufflinks, wall displays etc

Pete you done it again mate - great unusual item. This is a totally TR period item, what a find and I have only ever seen one in a street scene photograph, I think in a cigy card album. If I remember correctly they were being held by teenagers for a Christmas parade. Let me check my albums when I get a spare moment.

Gelatine Klapplaternen

Postby The Devils Bank » Wed Jan 09, 2019 4:12 pm

Please do Dave, I hope you can find it :ympray:

Many thanks for the pictures in the catalogue Ewan, it stops the usual questions about it's authenticity.

Ewan, what is this catalogue? any more pictures of it? (front cover).

I'm hoping to find some panels that could replace the shrunken ones, thin plastic card might do the trick?

Problem is Ewan, as they have warped and shrunk, they don't fit properly into the side panels. Quite loose in fact.

So, as I'm not in any major rush, I'm going to see if I can find a pattern similar to the originals and use them on plastic card.

Plain blood red might do the trick for now.
