Japanese Shin-gunto in WW2 mounts

Hello all.

Here is one of my new purchases for my collection. It has an old blade mounted in WW2 scabbard. The Kamon family emblem on the top is for the family Tokugawa family - The Edo period or Tokugawa period is the period between 1603 and 1867 in the history of Japan, when Japan was under the rule of the Tokugawa shogunate. The handle I took off before purchase and you can see the clear stamp of the Tokugawa family, sorry I dont have any photos as I dont want to mess with it again.

The blade is basically a metre long razor blade - extremely sharp indeed and not to be messed with by my kids. There are a few nicks but nothing serious. I guess it was used for slashing rather than chopping - amazing the blade edge is probably less that 0.2 of a milimeter, very difficult to photo.

I like it a lot but have no idea if it will increase in value - its just a keeper for me. Thanks for looking :thumbsup:

I do not have any knowledge of these except to my eye, they more closely resemble works of art than a weapon of war.

Dave a very desirable piece. Not my forte but appreciate them. I only have two and two chiefs knives.

Thanks for your comments, I do like it and really know little about them but took the plunge and bought off a guy through his reputation. I am still amazed at how sharp it is, I do believe you could shave with it if you had the room. I bought a few more pieces, I will post later.

beautiful piece Dave :cool: ive always loved these i did have one at one time from Edo period but ended up swapping it for a navy dagger and hangers which i still own today :ymblushing: :thumbsup:
